Harnessing the environment
|
In the wet winters and springs of the Pacific Northwest, many of us have
seasonal springs that create problems with with lawns and garden areas of our landscpaes.
We had one client with this issue to the extent that not only was the seasonal spring creating unsightly problem areas,
but potentially creating extensive lawn damage.
In our discussions with this client, we came upon the solution to isolate the water source to create a seasonal waterfall and drainage course.
To implement this, we brought in large boulders positioned to control and direct the water in a cascading fall, accompanied by
plant design that enhanced this as a focal point, rather than the problem area it previously was and resolving the drainage issue.
In similar situations, we have turned wet areas into small ponds to allow for habitat that includes small fish and aquatic life, birds and
other wildlife. Site conditions and the unique lay of land will spell solutions to what only appears to be a problem.
